TRAVESSIA included in Huda Tayob’s “Index of Edges” at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia 2023

TRAVESSIA Teaser - Caminhos

TRAVESSIA - Impressões de Viagem | Field Notes is a travelogue-essay that presents a personal reflection on memory, archiving and family heritage. The essay was originally published as a bilingual written piece (with photos by the author) on the Archive of Forgetfulness, a project supported by the Goethe Institut - Johannesburg (2021).

This year, Dr. Huda Tayob invited me to submit the piece in a different format: an audio-narration that, together with other voices and contributions, integrates the ‘Watery Stories’ component of her project Index of Edges, now showing at the 18th International Architectural Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia 2023. These Stories “weave an oral map of coastal indices from Cape Town to Port Said”.

TRAVESSIA is paired with a reading of the poem Ocean Home (2022), by South African poet Toni Giselle Stuart, on track nº. 8 of the ‘Watery Stories’. This track can be listened to on the project’s website, or on Spotify.

I never could have imagined how far TRAVESSIA would travel when I first sat down to  write it, a process that began a decade ago. Honoured and thrilled to take part on these wonderful journeys!
