WHO WILL BEAR WITNESS? published on the Disembodied Territories platform

“I came to understand that this is what I really arrived to, all those years ago: A topography of trauma that lies sub-surface, undetected, until one learns to read the signs, to notice the erasure and the absence.”

Honoured to be in such illustrious company as a participant in this incredible project, DISEMBODIED TERRITORIES, co-organised by the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics (LSE) + the Flanders Architecture Institute, launched in April 2022.

In this essay, Who will bear witness?, I relate my experiences as a young female student in Cape Town and conceptually explore (in)visibility, memory and witnessing as a way of mapping territory.
